Having young children shouldn’t mean that we miss out on going to a winery. Many years ago, before we had our gorgeous girls, we recall friends commenting that they didn’t go to wineries any more because they do not cater for children…and some don’t, which is ok…but many wineries have come a long way…
Sam Miranda in the King Valley in Victoria is our first featured ‘kid friendly’ winery. Located in the heart of the King Valley near Oxley, the cellar door and cafe are housed in an impressive building with a 40ft tower letting light shine through the tasting area and seating area.
Relaxed, modern, stylish and breezy, the cafe/restaurant overlooked an enormous green bush setting. Our girls and their friends immediately ran out to a small cubby house which was nestled in the shade…far enough away from the outdoor area to not bother other patrons, and close enough for us to keep an eye on them. They played with the free range chickens, enjoyed the cubby and ran around the large grassy area.
We were there for lunch and were very impressed with the addition of the kids menu (one aspect that we find many wineries do not have)…yummy homemade nuggets, shoestring fries and pesto gnocci were devoured by the kids. The grown ups enjoyed the most amazing lunch, mouth watering eye fillet for Wayne and the rest of us shared tapas plates of arancini balls, salmon rillette, prawns, bruschetta, calamari, baby beetroot tartlet and parmesan fries…paired with the Sam Miranda Pinot Grigio and the Sam Miranda ‘Girls Block’ Red. (Oh my, a few bottles made their way to the boot…just lovely)
What a gorgeous day out. 4 adults and 5 kids from 8mth to 7yrs enjoyed the atmosphere and appreciated the little touches to ensure the children had a great time, whilst remaining true to their style. The service was outstanding, friendly and warm and the food was DELICIOUS…we can’t wait to add this day to our Travel Journal…
Have you enjoyed a ‘Kid Friendly’ Winery? We would love to hear all about it…
