Hitting the west coast of Tasmania was one of our favourite parts of our Tour of Tassie Adventure. We had to get to Strahan to experience World Heritage Cruises, which was on our bucket list for this holiday. When we spoke with Lynda and the young owners of the Strahan Beach Tourist Park, we knew were heading to the right place to stay! We love supporting family owned and operated parks and this one ticks all the boxes in this area.
Strahan is a picturesque coastal town that is steeped in history and a must stop to experience Huon Pine and one of the BEST cruises we have ever been on – World Heritage Cruises – check out our review here.
The Strahan Beach Tourist Park is located on the beach and while we were there we experienced some of the BEST sunsets we have ever seen. We pulled up in a grassy site in the overfill area as it was a very busy time of the year. If you are heading here during school holidays and in the summer months, then we highly recommend you book beforehand. We were very luck to snap up the last powered site.
Despite being the busy season, we found the park to be quiet and homely. Possibly because we were not near the amenities or the playground. The Camp kitchen had everything that you needed – Cane chairs and table, fridge, microwave, some utensils, stainless steel island bench and bbq.
The girls loved the small playground which had one of their favourite style swings and a double red slide that they had races down over and over and over again!
All of the amenities were in close proximity of each other. Just a tennis ball throw really. The laundry housed 3 washing machines and a couple of dryers. In there was also the old faithful ironing board. (Why? I have no idea. Who irons their clothes while on holidays.) Next to the laundry was the toilet block. The pail cream bricks on the outside, makes this block look old and tired, but on the inside even though it could have done with a new make-over they were clean and tidy. As was the whole park. For such a busy park not one bin was over full, and we didn’t see any rubbish on the floor. Certainly a credit to the park for cleanliness.
The winning factor for the Strahan Beach Tourist Park is LOCATION! The beach is only meters away and it was a short walk…and scoot…to the township. Being within walking distance to the cafes, restaurants and cruises was fantastic. A well lit boardwalk was perfect for scooters & bikes and our walks into town with gorgeous scenery were so relaxing…
Did we mention the SUNSETS? Check out this AMAZING photo we caught…
