Voted the BEST holiday park in Australia is a massive award to win…2 years in a row! So we decided to head back to the BIG4 Deniliquin Holiday Park to take a closer look.

Two years ago we visited and our girls rated it as the best park they had been to.  Mind you, it was the first park we had stayed at that had it’s own full size mini golf course AND a splash park, so they were in heaven.  We were all looking forward to heading back, especially during the Easter weekend as we had previously steered clear of big caravan parks at peak time.  Lots to look forward to…

I towed the New Age Caravans Big Red (we were road testing it for  Easter and a few What’s Up! Downunder episodes – towing for me was a little hairy – read more about our Towing Tips here ) to Deniliquin from Numurkah – a cruisy drive of just under an hour and half – and only 3.5hrs from Melbourne.  Making it the perfect long weekend getaway destination.

We rolled into town and through Deniliquin – there is so much to do around the area and we could not wait to explore.  Just over 3kms out of town  you will find the BIG4 Deniliquin Holiday Park.  You will be welcomed by massive trees, nature at it’s best plus warm and welcoming smiles.  Ample parking/check in area with a quick and easy process.  The staff (like last time) were very accommodating, super friendly and had big smiles.  Despite having a full reception area with kids buying icecreams and booking go karts – the staff handled the busy little hub with ease and calmness.  We knew Easter weekend would be a busy time, but there was no crankiness or people rushing.  Everyone was in good spirits which was wonderful.

Our caravan site was in the new area of the grounds.  Frank & Lynda, who are long time owners, work tirelessly on the park, moving with the trends, making improvements and maintaining a well laid out park of cabins, powered sites and camping areas.  Extending was inevitable and the new sites had everything you could want, roomy enough for the Big Red and other large rigs.  The new areas don’t have any shade, but once the little trees grow, it will be gorgeous.

There were hundreds of kids around, yet the park didn’t feel over crowded.  We were pleasantly surprised.  All the kids (and grown ups) had huge smiles on their faces, enjoying the immaculate facilities, the celebration of Easter and the perfect weather!  What more could we ask for?

The kids activities were all Easter themed and our girls loved making bunny rabbits and their own icecreams.  Once again, we were impressed with the organisation of these activities, catering for all the kids, young and old.  Movie night was a hit! Trolls was playing and the whole family LOVED IT!  The tennis courts were well lit for the older kids and there was live music by the water.  So much going on, but also so relaxing.

The 400m of landscaped riverfront on the magnificent Edward River is a key feature and one of our favourite areas of this park.  Lush green grass, impressive trees.  The perfect area to set up the picnic rug with friends and family and chillax, play games, read and ENJOY.  The tranquillity on the banks was lovely.  Joyfully interrupted every now and then by the many families enjoying all the water sports and activities.

We could certainly see why the BIG4 Deniliquin Holiday Park was voted the best holiday park in all of Australia for the second year in a row.  They won this in the ‘Caravan & Holiday Parks’ category at the coveted Australian Tourism Awards.  It was the little things for us that stood out:  The friendly nature and service delivered by ALL of the staff members, from reception to the grounds staff, they were all brilliant.  The facilities were well kept & so clean, not an easy job to maintain during one of the busiest weekends on the calendar.  The gardens were fabulous, fresh, tidy and as Ashlee put it “not a bindy in sight!”.

This park also has all the bells and whistles that the kids will LOVE!  The type of park that you can pull up and not venture out or go anywhere because you will all be entertained all day with what the park has to offer.  We asked our girls what they loved the most, and this is what they said:

  • The Water Slide! – This was new – Ashlee remembered the splash park from our previous visit and was so excited to see they had added a waterslide.
  • The Splash Park and Giant Water Bucket! – it would not have mattered what the weather was doing, the warm water coming down the slide and out of the splash park was a winner! Fun all year round here.
  • The Jumping Pillow – of course. As it was Easter Weekend, I have never seen so many kids on a jumping pillow.  Lucky for them, this one is HUGE and could handle them all.
  • Mini Golf – for the first time in a long time, our girls and their cousins played the whole course which meant hours of entertainment.
  • Movie Night – the large room was spacious and everyone was kept snug as a bug as they watched Trolls. Of course, this would be high on their list.
  • Go Karts – on such a busy weekend, we only had to wait 15 minutes for our turn and the girls (and their new friends from a few vans up) all enjoyed a lovely morning riding around the park grounds – up and down the ‘streets’, around the pool and jumping pillow, waving and laughing. So much FUN!

What did the grown ups enjoy the most? All of the above – it is always such a joy watching the kids have so much fun outdoors and making new friends. Two of the main reasons why we LOVE caravanning.  We also loved the riverbank…this is definitely a park that we will come back to again..and again…and again…

Facilities listed on the BIG4 Holiday Parks website include:  grassed riverfront, peaceful bush setting, water skiing, slalom course, boat ramp, fishing, giant jumping pillow, go-karts, playground, basketball/tennis court, mini golf, camp kitchen, conference facilities, BBQs undercover, solar heated resort pool & water splash park and Pontoon Hire Boat. Conference and Function Facilities: A modern 100 square metre conference and function room is now available…
