We found ourselves at the Crystal Brook Tourist Park when we needed somewhere to park the van on our Puffing Billy adventures in Melbourne. We made the choice based on proximity but what we found was truly a hidden gem!
Crystal Brook Tourist Park is located nearby the CBD and close to the Dandenongs and the local wine regions. Despite its amazing proximity to the city this park has a wildlife emphasis and you truly feel that you are in the country. An abundance of majestic trees, lush gardens, lawns and wildlife mean you’re whisked away from any hint of suburbia or the city. Crystal Brook describes itself as a ‘bush park’ and it truly has that rustic, country charm that our family loves.
The staff at Crystal Brook Tourist Park welcomed us with warmth and enthusiasm. We were staying there during their ‘Open Day’ and were spoiled with activities and treats. A sausage sizzle, jumping castle and fundraising for the local chapter of the Country Fire Authority meant the park was buzzing and fun. Even if you were to come on a ‘normal’ day however I have no doubt that you’d still receive fabulous customer service year round! Family Parks never fail to deliver…
The park is clean, tidy and homely. It’s a traditional holiday park with some modern upgrades including a pool area, jumping pillow, games room and kids play facilities. There’s a small kiosk with all the basic necessities on site and a heated outdoor dining area which would be nice in autumn or early winter.
There’s walking and bike tracks around the park which are scenic for a stroll or perfect for the kids to scooter around and burn off energy before bedtime. There’s also daily bird feeding every morning with some very tame ‘local’s’ who’ll eat right from your hands.
Crystal Brook Tourist Park is actually a dog-friendly park. Whilst we don’t travel with animals ourselves we know this is always a sought after feature so worth a mention for those of you with a pooch on board!
Crystal Brook Tourist Park has a fabulous kids club which our girls loved. Dot painting boomerangs was a highlight for them, as were the Go Karts and jumping pillow.
At the end of the day this is a Park that is really about location. From hitting the Yarra Valley Ranges and Wineries to the Eureka Sky Deck, the Healesville Wildlife Sanctuary or the National Gallery or Funfields Water and Amusement Park this is a location that can’t be surpassed. It would also be an ideal choice for reasonable accommodation (with it’s offering of cabins, camping and van berths) for Flemington Racecourse and if you were attending an event at one of the big sporting arenas in the area.
For us, we found ourselves happily staying at Crystal Brook Tourist Park as we were off to experience the Puffing Billy Railway and we couldn’t have found a better place to call ‘home’. With so much to do in the local area and such a great experience we will definitely be recommending this park and hope to return soon!
